“Most people who strive to succeed are able to network and get on in life whether through family, friends or employment. Working with Young Start-up Talent provides a valuable bridge for TCHG to be able to support local young adults who have aspirations and great ideas and to put the two together.” said Jo Ellis – Operation Director at Town & Country Housing Group.

Some 40 local business leaders, heads of local sixth forms, college and youth group representatives met to celebrate the launch of the ever growing and popular entrepreneurial initiative, Young Start-up Talent. The project attracts many local and national sponsors who all contribute to the £50,000 prize fund. If you are aged between 16-25 or know of someone that would benefit from the initiative visit: www.youngstartuptalent.co.uk . The closing date for entries is 31st March 2014.

The initiative is due to be showcased during Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) at the Government offices of Business, Innovation and Skills on Thursday 21st November in 1 Victoria Street with Matthew Hancock MP and Minister for Skills and Enterprise as the keynote address at the event.

The judging panel for 2013/14 in West Kent will be Richard Karn - Managing Director of the Courier Media Group, Jo Ellis - Operations Director at Town & Country Housing Group, Michael Stevens – Senior Partner at Cripps Harries Hall, Stephen Mason – Managing Director of Mason International and founding partners of Young Start-up Talent, Matt Turner of Creative Pod and Lorraine Nugent of PR and Marketing agency Media Word Waves.

Katherine Parker – Learning and Development Director of Bowles who hosted the launch and will be working with some of the young entrepreneurs added “Bowles is really excited to be involved with Young Start-up Talent and we look forward to working with the finalists to prepare them for their big night”.

In June of this year Mohamed Abusayed (known as Abu) won the £50,000 prize for the 2013 project. Abu’s business is called SMT Trading Ltd and is a linen hire company. Abu commented “Since winning the prize fund I have more than doubled my client base. The project has helped me be more confident in talking to customers and has enabled me to grow as I have been able to purchase a much needed new van. I have so far been introduced to business networking and received a laptop and IT support from extech along with some great advice and mentoring sessions from the judges and sponsors.”

Andrew Hookway of extech who has been involved in the project since its inception and donates to the prize fund, a laptop and IT support for 12 months in each area of Young Start-up Talent said “We are proud to be supporters of Young Start-up Talent. We have been impressed by the quality of the business ideas and how previous winners have begun to develop their businesses. Today’s young entrepreneurs are tomorrow’s future.”
